The Draft is almost here ladies and gentlemen. I am here to drop a mock draft for all of you 2 weeks before the actual NFL Draft on the 26th-28th of this month. For as much as I believe there will be a couple trades in the first round, I will not be having any trades in this mock draft. Check back on the 26th for my final mock draft, which will be including trades.
1. Cleveland Browns
PICK: Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
There are rumors that Darnold is the guy and there are rumors that Allen is the guy. With Darnold, your getting a team player or I should say a team leader. Teammates of his from USC came out to Darnold's Pro Day to run routes for him out in the rain while jeopardizing sustaining injury. On top of that, Darnold flew back from his interview with the Browns to be at and throw the ball to RB Ronald Jones II and other teammates. We have many reports out there stating that people close to Dorsey wants that big, song armed QB. Dorsey has moved up in the draft last year for the Chiefs with drafting Patrick Mahomes, one of the biggest arms in the 2017 Draft. He has also drafted unfinished projects when he drafted Fisher over Joeckel with the number 1 overall pick in 2013.
2. New York Giants
PICK: Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Lets not kid ourselves here, Eli is getting older and the Giants have some really good talent at the WR and TE positions. The Giants have a lot of needs and the trade of JPP, it seems like they were destined to draft Bradley Chubb. I am a firm believer that the Browns were trying to push the "Darnold love" in order for the Giants to try and trade up to 1 to get the guy they want. They hold firm here and still end up getting their guy.
3. New York Jets (from Indianapolis Colts)
PICK: Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
There has not been one guy that has been more attached to a team than Baker Mayfield and the Jets. Mayfield has one of the best completion percentages for their career in college football history. Mayfield is a true winner and reminds me a lot of the situation Deshaun Watson was in this last year. Mayfield is a proven winner, but did he have to much help around him? I don't think so, and i think this a perfect spot for him. I still think Rosen is best QB available here but the Jets draft the guy they have visited with the most.
4. Cleveland Browns (from Houston Texans)
PICK: Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State
Oh the Browns... Do they go with Bradley Chubb, one of the best RB prospects in Saquon Barkley, do they go with an elite CB in Ward or the best G prospect in Quinton Nelson? The best thing for the Browns here is to take the guy they are in love with or make a trade and still be able to land one of those 4. A trade with TB here at pick 7 would make way too much sense, but because of my no-trade-clause I have the Browns taking a player that could make a great pairing with Myles Garrett and maybe even better college tape than him as well.
5. Denver Broncos
PICK: Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
The Broncos are pretty upset here and rightfully so. I believe they were hoping for one of the top 3 QB to fall, specifically Mayfield. They signed Keenum in the offseason so if Mayfield doesn't fall here they may pass on QB and go with the next best option for them. The Broncos tried trading away RB CJ Anderson in the offseason with the Dolphins, but that trade did not happen. The writing is on the wall and if they do not trade down here, Saquon Barkley is the pick.
6. Indianapolis Colts (from New York Jets)
PICK: Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
Colts were hoping for Chubb to slide, obviously that is not happening here in this Mock. They are thin at LB and it is one of their biggest needs. Edmunds is only 19 years old, is very talented and could be a key focal point for the Colts for years to come.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
PICK: Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State
I am torn on this pick for the Bucs. I am a fan and I want both OL and DB help. The pick for me is between Ward and Nelson. With Ward though, you are getting an elite CB that can help a pretty terrible secondary. The Bucs did resign Brent Grimes, but he is getting older and not the same player Ward is.
8. Chicago Bears
PICK: Quinton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
The Bears are throwing their hands up in joy and praising the Draft Gods. They not only get one of the best OL prospects, but they are also reuniting Nelson with his former Notre Dame OL coach. LB could be an option for the Bears as well, but I do not think they can pass on Nelson here at 8.
9. San Francisco 49ers
PICK: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
With the unfortunate events surrounding LB Rueben Foster, the pick here for the 49ers is pretty clear here for them and it has to be LB. They take one of the best LBs in the class with Smith. Smith may have been my pick regardless of the Foster situation, that combo could be one of the best LB combos in the game.
10. Oakland Raiders
PICK: Derwin James, S, Florida State
Secondary help is the most pressing need in my eyes for the Raiders. Minkah Fitzpatrick could possibly be one of the most athletically gifted DB prospects in the draft, but what position does he play? Is it CB or S? He is a slot corner in my eyes and has even stated it himself. I can not see a slot corner going in the top 10 regardless of how athletically talented he is. So...with all of that being said, they go with the prospect with a true defined position with Derwin James. James is a safety that has range that can cover all across the field and he can cover the TE and RB close to the line.
11. Miami Dolphins
PICK: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
The Dolphins are rolling around like pigs in crap here. They have Tannehill, but getting Rosen here is to enticing to pass up. They get a true QB, a QB that command an offense. Rosen may be one of the best pure passers the draft has to offer.
12. Buffalo Bills (from Cincinnati Bengals)
PICK: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
OL is an obvious need for the Bills with Cordy Glenn and Eric Wood gone, and after striking out on all of the big 4 QBs they need to go with a player that can help rebuild their OL and McGlinchey can be a piece to that puzzle.
13. Washington Redskins
PICK: Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
This is a pick that I have gone back and forth with for quite some time. They can take a DT that can shore up their defense or they can take a playmaker in the secondary. I have mocked Vita Vea almost every mock draft here to the Redskins, but I think with the lose of Fuller in the offseason and not signing Breeland they will end up drafting one of the most athletically gifted prospects in Minkah Fitzpatrick. Minkah is a guy that can play safety and outside corner but is best as a slot corner. He will be a welcomed addition to the Redskins secondary.
14. Green Bay Packers
PICK: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa
This is a tricky pick with Fitzpatrick getting drafted right before their selection. I think the biggest need for the Pack is in the secondary and they go with a guy that is long and athletic. He has range to cover all over the field and will be a day 1 starter.
15. Arizona Cardinals
PICK: Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College
Arizona is in a spot to trade up or trade down depending who has been drafted obviously, but if they do stand pat with the draft the way it is they go with someone that new Head Coach Steve Wilks can mold. Harold Landry is the perfect pick here and could have been a top 10 pick if not due to injuries this past year.
16. Baltimore Ravens
PICK: Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
Ravens have a lot of needs and many people have WR slotted to them. I do not though and I am going with QB Lamar Jackson. Ravens could cut Flacco in 2019 and save a big chunk of money and then roll with Jackson. Ravens have offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and assistant head coach Greg Roman who have done their work with athletically gifted QB's. They have created packages and an offense around guys like Vick and Kaepernick. Jackson is one of the most electrifying QB's that we have ever seen and could be a huge star in the NFL...or a huge bust.
17. Los Angeles Chargers
PICK: Vita Vea
The Chargers can add one of the best DL in the draft here this late in the draft with DT Vita Vea. Vita can stop the run and and help move the QB around in the pocket. Adding him with Ingram and Boss is a huge add for the Chargers and could look at being a little unfair.
18. Seattle Seahawks
PICK: Marcus Davenport, EDGE, Texas-San Antonio
I am a Seahawk fan, but I don't even know what they are doing with this team. They shipped off pretty much everyone on the defensive side and lost offensive playmakers in Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson. I have them taking one of the youngest prospects in the draft with Marcus Davenport, who is only 19 years old. He is someone that can be the new face of the Seattle def.
19. Dallas Cowboys
PICK: Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU
This is pretty easy for me here, the pick is Sutton. Some people will have Ridley here with his excellent route running, but I think they go with size and playmaking ability that Sutton has.
20. Detroit Lions
PICK: Maurice Hurst, DL, Michigan
There are rumors that Ameer Abdulah could be someone that can be traded or that they are destined for a full RB by committee. I think they hold onto Ameer and go a different way. Defensive minded Head Coach Patricia is coming over from the Patriots and I believe that is where they go with their 1st pick. They get a guy in Hurst you is a monster and can play all over that D Line. There are some scared with his heart issue, but if not for that, he would be a top 12 pick.
21. Cincinnati Bengals (from Buffalo Bills)
PICK: Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State
Burfict can't seem to stay out of trouble for the Bengals. They need to make a change at LB and LVE can be the guy to do that. He is a big, long, athletic LB who tested out of the park at the combine.
22. Buffalo Bills (from Kansas City Chiefs)
PICK: Mason Rudolph, QB, OSU
We had the Bills going with OT earlier so now we need another "at need position" filled. QB for the Bills is a must, if they pass on QB at 12, Rudolph should be the guy here at 22.
23. New England Patriots (from Los Angeles Rams)
PICK: Conor Williams, OT, Texas
OL is a need for the Patriots and they get a steal here with Williams. He can play OT or possibly OG as some people are judging him on his "short arms." But, Williams is an elite prospect at OT.
24. Carolina Panthers
PICK: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
Panthers have a need at interior OL as well as in the secondary. They go with a CB here with Jaire Alexander. Alexander can play on the outside an in the nickel.
25. Tennessee Titans
PICK: Rashaan Evans, ILB, Georgia
The Titans need some pass rushers and they should add one here in the draft. But, I have them passing on pass rush here and get the best ILB left with Rashaan Evans.
26. Atlanta Falcons
PICK: Taven Bryan, DT, Florida
Poe is gone and they need a player to replace him. There are two DTs here that make sense but I am going with the kid out of Florida. Taven Bryan is not getting the love that he should be during this draft season, but he will be a perfect fit for Atlanta.
27. New Orleans Saints
PICK: DJ Moore, WR, Maryland
The Saints kind of addressed WR in the offseason with signing Cam Meredith away from the Bears, but it is still very much a need as well as TE. I think they go with a WR here and the consensus will most likely be Calvin Ridley, but I am going to go with DJ Moore. Moore is a little undersized but his tape reminds me so much of Steve smith. If I were the Saints, that is someone I would want on my team.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers
PICK: Justin Reid, S, Stanford
With all of the top ILB gone, the Steelers need to rethink their strategy. They stick with the defensive side of the ball and go with S Justin Reid. Reid can play all over the field and they need a young guy to come in and help that secondary.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars
PICK: Isaiah Wynn, OG, Georgia
We could make an argument that WR could be the pick here with letting AR15 walk this offseason. Even with the addition of Norwell, I see the Jags adding another OG in Isaiah Wynn. There has been talk that Wynn can play all over that OL.
30. Minnesota Vikings
PICK: Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA
They need to protect Kirk Cousins, plain and simple. Miller is a "project" of sorts, but he did a pretty good job while at UCLA protecting Josh Rosen.
31. New England Patriots
PICK: Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
This is not how I saw the draft falling for the Patriots. The rich get richer. They traded away Cooks, and find a replacement with maybe the best route runner in the draft in Ridley.
32. Philadelphia Eagles
PICK: Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
There has been much love between these two, and Ajayi may not be the guy they thought he was when they traded for him. In Guice they get a true 3 down workhorse.
